The Plain of Jars, located near Phonsavan in Laos's Xieng Khouang province, is a mysterious, ancient archaeological landscape featuring thousands of megalithic stone jars dating from 500 BC to 800 AD. These Iron Age jars, scattered in groups, likely functioned in burial practices. Due to heavy U.S. bombing during the Vietnam War, only select, cleared sites (notably Site 1, 2, and 3) are open to tourists.
